Nextlaw On Speaker: Pitching Legal Tech Startups

Chief Growth Officer Maya Markovich joined Australia-based The Legal Forecast’s On Speaker series to give audience members a glimpse inside the VC thought process. Maya shared some insights gained from vetting over 300 legal tech pitches, noting key points to make in a short investment pitch including the founding team, sustainable products, and industry trend prediction.

She advised founders seeking funding to “Skip the demo. Focus instead on demonstrating a real pain point, a large addressable market, a business model, and potential for disruption.” And speaking on larger industry trends, Maya noted: “Emerging dynamics like accelerating regulatory complexity and increased security issues and the rethink of the billable hour are some of the more acute challenges that legal professionals are looking for solutions to now.”

The Legal Forecast aims to advance legal practice through technology and innovation. It is a not–for–profit run by early-career professionals who are passionate about disruptive thinking and access to justice.
